Set in 1960, the player assumes the role of a plane crash survivor named
Jack, who must explore the dystopian underwater city of Rapture and survive
the mutated beings and mechanical drones within it. The game incorporates
elements found in role-playing and survival horror games, and is described by
the developers as a spiritual successor to their previous title System
Shock 2.
